Last year The Christmas decorations at East Gardens went up in October.

4. – Santa is Not P.C.

If your white Anglo Saxon you may not notice
My family half Chinese

why should their be a White Anglo Saxon Santa who gets the credit

We need a Chinese Santa -Greek, Maori, Lebanese, Aboriginal, Santa
Santa has to go multicultural or he goes to the wall.

2 serious reasons to finish with
5th Reason – Santa and the Myth around him – make people go on misunderstanding what Christmas is about

Song
You better watch out
you better not shout
you better not pout I’m telling you why,
Santa Claus is comin’ to town

He knows if you are sleeping
He knows if you ‘re awake
He knows if you’ve been ….........bad or good
so be good for goodness sake.

Santa teaches Children … who grow up to be Adults
that Christmas is about good people getting Gifts

totally wrong

Christmas – about God giving his greatest possible gift – His son
to a world full of unthankful, unloving, undeserving people.

Christmas is about bad people getting a gift

Christmas is about a rescue mission
a Rescue can cost you something
Read story of Martin Turgeon
Wimps we drive miles to the beaches to swim in it … and they wouldn’t dive into it to save that little boy

God looked at our dirty world full of violence, greed and hate selfishness
saw us drowning in the mess we have made of our lives
and he dived into our world – born as a baby

MYTH – But not all true – just a story
the star in the sky – that can’t be true …
Time magazine – Paul Barnett page 120
page 122

what if it really is true

CC- remembers He was born to die ….
he came to die to take the penalty that we deserve, so we can be forgiven by God

Last reason – Shoot Santa and the Christmas industry
Picture – little boy/ famous. 10,000 reasons why famous
Alan Border

8 years old – Do you know Alan Border? – know about him until he was 8? Was there anything happened after that.

That’s what do with Jesus – keep him a baby
Now in Christmas time – usually not even mentioned – but when he is
Comfortable to keep him as a baby
Mary, nativity scene,

Easier if never have to confront Christ as an adult
Much easier to keep him as a Baby
But the baby grew up
Because he grew up and taught a lot of uncomfortable things
Matt. 10:34 “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to turn ”`a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law—36 a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’ 37 “Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; 38 and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

Did miracles as no-one else ever has
raised the dead he healed the sick,
He was crucified and rose again
Where we spend eternity depends on how we respond to him

You can see why people want to keep him a Baby

*One last point -*
everyone has to make a decision about Jesus
make an informed one

n – Margie – the Bible … Sux

More sophisticated – but are we more informed – most people decision based on ignorance

Read a gospel in couple of hours –
Got a couple public holidays – on Jesus
Why not take some of that time to read a gospel – so can make more informed decision.

About

Christmas and Easter are THE big preaching opportunities for most churches – which is why they have their very own section at Perspective.

This section is a little different to the others. Here, you will find many cut ‘n’ paste, ready to go out of the box resources for those two times of the year when we find good numbers of non-church people coming to our meetings.
Again, the caveat applies: Don’t be tempted to grab a Christmas talk from here and simply read it out at your church. Rather, see these as sources of good ideas, structures and stories that you can readily adopt and integrate into your own creations.

As always, contributions are encouraged. See the Contact page for how to submit your resources.
